The Heritage Centre Exhibitions include the very early Tetrapod track way, geological, archaeological, social, cultural and historical exhibitions, visit the traditional old school room, a real treat for everyone.

Other exhibitions include all aspects of marine life, Marine biologist Maud Delap, RNLI, and Lighthouses. The Knight of Kerry resided on Valentia Island at Glanleam House and his influence in island life has its place too within the collection, along with displays on the slate Quarry, observatory, radio station to mention but a few.

Our largest exhibition is our Transatlantic Cable exhibition, Valentia being the site of the very first transatlantic cable uniting the ‘old world’ with the ‘new’ by submarine telegraph. Despite early failures, they persisted and in 1866 Brunel’s ‘Great eastern’ (the largest ship in the world at the time) laid the first successful Atlantic Telegraph between Valentia and Heart’s Content in Newfoundland.

A visit to Valentia Island Heritage Centre is a real treat and an excellent place to start your Valentia Island adventure.
