Keem is a small sandy beach set in a rural area of Achill Island and sheltered by cliffs in a glorious horseshoe bay. The cliffs support a rich amount of plants and animals and bird and wildlife watching is very good here.

Keem Beach Mayo

The beach is lifeguarded during the bathing season (lifeguard times are displayed on the information board at the beach). There are lifebuoys and torpedo buoys available on the beach. The has access ramps for disabled people but does not have disabled toilet facilities.


The beach is well signposted and is located 10km west of Keel village and past the village of Dooagh. This sheltered bay is said to have been blessed by St. Patrick during his stay on Croagh Patrick. According to folklore, St. Patrick looked out from the mountain and saw the golden beach at Keem and said that no-one would ever drown in its waters. .
