Dunbrody Famine Ship is a unique tourist attraction in New Ross, Co Wexford in the South East of Ireland and it is a Discovery Point on Ireland's Ancient East. The ship is an authentic reproduction of an 1840’s emigrant vessel and it gives an interpretation of the famine emigrants experience. A visitor can avail of a guided tour which incorporates costumed performers. Photo by Luke Myers
There is also a visitors centre with a cafe and it is well worth a visit with plenty to do nearby. President John F. Kennedy visited this very spot and recalled his great grandparents leaving Ireland in 1849 saying 'famine emigrants carrying only two things, a strong desire for freedom and a strong religious faith'.
