Portlaoise (Maryborough) Station opened in 1847 and up to 1940 it had three signal cabins, North, South and the Conniberry Junction where the Mountmellick Branch left the spur to the Great South and Western Railway station from the West and Central Irish Laine. This section of dismantled railway may have the potential to be developed as a walking/cycle route.

Use our Map of Ireland and Sat Nav tool to get directions and our detailed maps and GPS on our ActiveME App to find and follow the railway line and keep on track.  At all times, our maps and App should be used in conjunction proper map and compass navigation techniques.
