Burt Castle stands on top of Castlehill and dates from 16th century during the reign of Henry VIII. It has strong connections with the O'Doherty clan.

The towers are still partially intact with musket holes and loops and a stairs within one of the towers is in good enough condition to climb to the top storey where there is a vaulted stone chamber. This castle is on private land to access and climb at your own risk and do ask permisson to access if required.

  • In 1587 the lands are in the possession of Sir John O'Doherty.
