Áras an Uachtaráin, formerly the Viceregal Lodge, is the official residence of the President of Ireland. It is located in the Phoenix Park on the northside of Dublin. Built in 1751 & situated in the 1,752 acres of the Phoenix Park near Dublin, the original house was designed and built by Park Ranger Nathaniel Clements. By 1782 it had been acquired for use as a summer residence by the Viceroys who oversaw British rule in Ireland. Clements received £25,000 for the house. The office of President of Ireland was created in 1937 and Presidents have lived there since.
