Achill Island in County Mayo is the largest island off the coast of Ireland. It has a population of approx 2,700 and is 148 km². A bridge connecting the island to the mainland was first built in 1887. Early human settlements are believed to have been established here around 3000BC. The island is well known for hillwalking, Cycling and water activities as well as the 40km Atlantic Drive around the island is a must.
