The Great Limerick Run is a fully inclusive sporting event that allows people regardless of fitness levels, mobility, or age to participate in one of three races. Each race route is designed to showcase both the old historical city and the new modern riverside city. All race entrants receive a technical running t-shirt, medal, and goody bag while visitors to Limerick on the May bank holiday will also experience our annual sports expo which includes displays from national and international retailers, womans world section, and health & fitness stands. The Great Limerick Run sports expo is the largest sports expo outside Dublin.
The full marathon at 26.2 miles or 42 kilometres through a variety of settings including Limerick's city centre, the University of Limerick, picturesque countryside and riverside locations. The route photo below shows the mile markers and drink stops and our map below shows the route map, profile and the GPS route info that can be printed and downloaded once your registered. The marathon starts at the award winning People's Park surrounded by Georgian Limerick. The course then heads to the University and Castletroy area taking in the superb University Campus and the breathtaking Living Bridge. The route then heads back to the city taking in the Canal Bank. This route is a very popular running route for runners of all abilities including many world champions visiting Ger Hartman at the University Arena. The marathon course then returns to the city center reaching the halfway point on Parnell Street. The route then heads to the countryside passing Young Munsters Rugby Club, Old Crescent Rugby Club and Limerick Golf Club. The route then returns to the city center for the final 10 kilometres. The last 10 kilometres are filled with a wonderful array of historical, sporting and cultural sites before finishing on Limericks O'Connell Street.
