The disused railway from Killeshandra to Cavan town via Drumbar was opened in the 1860s due the enconomic boom in agriculture. However the railway closed in 1947 to goods and passengers and was a sign of rural depopulation and the growth of agriculture in other areas. This section of dismantled railway may have the potential to be developed as a walking/cycle route.
