Ballycroy National Park is located in the Owenduff/Nephin Mountains area of the Barony of Erris in northwest County Mayo, Ireland 10 km north of Mulranney. It was established in 1998 and is Ireland's sixth National Park. It is one of the largest expanses of peatland in Europe, consisting of 11,000 hectares of Atlantic blanket bog & mountainous terrain. It is a unique habitat with a diverse flora and fauna.The area of the park is a candidate Special Area of Conservation. The bog at Ballycroy is especially important in this regard because it is one of the largest examples of a blanket bog habitat left in Western Europe. The Ballycroy National Park Visitor Centre, located in Ballycroy village between Mulranny and Bangor, houses an interpretative exhibition of the landscape, habitats and species found in the National Park,
