Arranmore Island (Árainn Mhór) is 5km from Burtonport off the west coast of Co Donegal, Ireland and is a Discovery Point on the Wild Atlantic Way. The island has been inhabited since prehistoric times and the promontory fort at Uilinn, which dates from about 800BC, still stands on its cliff top perch.
The island is reached by year round ferries from Burtonfort and is a very peaceful place where visitors can fish and swim or use the great dive sites on the island. There is also a way marked trail from the beaches to the island's summit with spectacular sea, cliff and mountain views. For the energetic one can climb the steep cliffs.
It is an Irish speaking island so enjoy the Gaelic culture with music song and dance in the local pubs.
