The unusual Wonderful Barn near Leixslip in Co. Kildare was built by the wealthy Conolly family in 1743 during a famine period. It's not clear exactly the purpose of the building but some theories include a grain store in case of future famines, a dovecote to house Doves as game as they were a delicacy at the time, a place for sport shooting or game keepers tower.

It stands approximately 22 metres in height with a tapering cone shape with a cental hole through each floor, encircled by a staircase and a crow’s nest viewing gallery.
