The Eastern Reeks Loop around Lough Googh is a beautiful but strenuous 6 hour (12 km) walking route starting from the Black Valley and ending close to the Head of the Gap of Dunloe near the picturesque town of Killarney, County Kerry in the south west of Ireland. once the hike passes Lough Googh and numerous waterfalls a careful climb is required to reach Cnoc na Péiste (988m) on the Eastern Reeks. From here you head east along the ridge passing the summits of The Big Gun (939m), Cruach Mór (932m), Cruach Bheag (781m), Faill Na Mionnáin (721m) and Cnoc Na Bhráca (731m) before decending to Cnoc Na dTarbh (655m) and Drishana (464m) before reaching the Head of the Gap. This route can be a full loop walk back to the Black Valley along the road or you can avoid the road walking at the end if you hike by taking two cars.

Although you do not summit Carrauntoohil Mountain (1,040m) on this route, it is still one of the more interesting and varied walks on the Reeks, with some nice scrambing required, some great ridge walks and great views. Care is advised on both the ascent and descent.
