Portlaoise (Maryborough) Station opened in 1847 and up to 1940 it had three signal cabins, North, South and the Conniberry Junction where the Mountmellick Branch left the spur to the Great South and Western Railway station from the West and Central Irish Laine. This section of dismantled railway may have the potential to be developed as a walking/cycle route.
