The Daniel O’Connell Memorial Church, completed in 1902 is the only church in Ireland named after lay person to honour the local hero Daniel O'Connell  ‘The Liberator’ who was born in the parish and who worked in his political career in the early 19th century to bring about Catholic Emancipation.

Building started in 1888 and due to its size and age it requires regular attention to ensure the structure remains intact and to maintain its original beauty. It has recently undergone a program of extensive refurbishment and renovation to its exterior and roof.
