The Lough Cummeenapeasta Loop Walk is a moderate to strenuous 4 hour (9 km) walking route starting from the traditional Cronins Yard, through the Hags Glen and a climb to the summit of Cnoc na Peiste (988m). From here the walk loops around east along the ridge looking towards the Big Gun (939m) with view great views to the Black Valley, back the the Hags Glen, of summit of Carrauntoohil (1,040m) Ireland highest mountain and the rest of the Eastern Reeks.

This route does requires some scrambling and is a little strenuous on the ascent but on the other hand it is one of the more interesting walks on the Reeks and offers you some great views back towards Killarney and west into the Iveragh Peninsula and to the Beara Peninsula if you are lucky. It is only a short drive to the car park in Cronins Yard from Killarney town, which is in the south west of Ireland in County Kerry.

There are plenty of other routes to suit beginners to advanced walkers on the Reeks, so please find a route that is right for you or your group. Plan your walk by checking the weather,  sunrise sunset times and our hiking checklist on our website https://www.activeme.ie/useful-info/planning-a-trip/. Please remember that you are only as fast as the slowest member of your group!

Use our Map of Ireland and Sat Nav tool to get directions to the start point and our detailed maps and GPS on our ActiveME iPhone App and Android App to find and follow the walking route live on screen and keep on track. At all times, our maps and App should be used in conjunction with proper map and compass navigation techniques.
